Open chimney: I was commissioned to produce a fire surround where an existing flu system and fire-place base were situated. The concept was to create a design that would detract from the basic traditional design that currently existed. My idea was to implement a triangular shape cover, again to overcome traditional horizontal and vertical patterns. On top of the cover, I would place copper plates, 5 cm proud from the base cover that would prevent heating. These plates were dipped in acid and gave a powerful antique design. In the alcove surrounding the triangular front and around the base of the fire stone work, I would place Turquoise coloured tiles that would not only compliment the brown, copper and black colours of the fire surround, but would also create a uniformed background to the design.
